What Do You Write About in Your London Blog?
This blog tracks my adventures and observations as I spend at least a year (maybe longer?) as an American expat in London. Because I've spent a considerable amount of time in London in the past, I primarily write about off-the-beaten-path London neighborhoods and less apparent Britishisms. No tea jokes here! The arrival of summer (where we all get excited about 60 degrees) will mean more outdoor adventures outside of London! Stay tuned!
Why Did You Start Your London Blog?
I find that London is a city that inspires exploration while offering up all sorts of little amusements and surprises. On any walk, bike ride, bus ride, or other trip I talk around London, I inevitably come across people, neighborhoods, and sights that make me want to write about them and what thoughts/observations they prompted. I started my blog in order to share these stories with others who enjoy London, whether they live there or wish they did!
Advice
- Make it personal! Too many bloggers are concerned with Google stats and traffic and SEO and so on, that their posts become cold and lifeless in an effort at being universally interesting. If I want a restaurant review, let's be honest, I'm going to look to TimeOut or other well-established publications. However, what they can't give me are the slice of life stories that reveal so much more about life in a city. Chances are, you aren't a professional food critic; but you ARE an expert on your own daily experiences.
- Be entertaining! People aren't coming to you for information, they want entertainment.
