Fine food for veggies at The Gate, Member ilovemypostcode

The Gate is the top posh choice for a vegetarian meal out, and a real dining treat. Unlike a lot of other veggie restaurants it's ''fine dining'' rather than salads and wholesomeness, and it has the menu and prices to match. For a recent big birthday meal there, we enjoyed stuffed and fried courgette flowers, beautiful sushi rolls and a pomegranite and sweet potato salad for starters. Mains were a Thai salad, fancy filled aubergines served with beetroot and chickpea salsa, and a morrell and fancy mushroom thing with black rice and samphire. There's some seriously good wine on offer, and we enjoyed aperitifs too. It's very easy to slip into a 'spoil yourself' mood here - and the staff are lovely, and encourage you along the way.. The Gate has a seriously relaxed atmosphere, and the restaurant is beautifully done out with simple white walls, a big sloping 'window wall' that looks out onto a courtyard and really simple furnishings. The courtyard outside, and it's 'tucked away' feel (it's behind a gate somewhere behind the hammersmith roundabout, at the back of a church) all add to the specialness of the place. It's understated but really special. Perfect for a special meal or romantic night out. Definitely book, as it's always choc full and is not really a 'drop in' type place. Enjoy!
