Museum of London Highlights
City Gallery, Museum of London

The City Gallery is a brand new space with street level glass windows looking out onto London Wall. The gallery looks at the traditions and ceremonies of the City as well as the people who live, work and study here today.

We will all find our personal highlights in the Museum of London but here are some of the fascinating objects you may well want to try and find in the galleries on the same floor as the entrance.
  • The face of an early London inhabitant, buried between 3640 and 3100BC.
  • The marble head of Mithras which once stood in a Roman temple in the city, carved around AD180-220.
  • A rare limestone sarcophagus which contained the body of a 4th century woman who came to London from the south west of the Roman Empire.
  • Late 15th century altar paintings believed to have come from a chapel at Westminster Abbey.
  • Sit in a Saxon building.
  • Tin-glazed floor tiles found during excavations of a shop on Pudding Lane, which burnt down during the Great Fire of London.
