Gorilla Kingdom opened in 2007 and is a pioneering £5.3 million exhibit bringing Central Africa to the heart of ZSL London Zoo. It immerses visitors in the sights, sounds and smells of the rainforest and brings visitors up close to a group of Western lowland gorillas.
Visitors walk along a forest path which opens onto a forest clearing, where the gorillas engage in natural behaviours in their social group. With no bars to separate animals from visitors, simply a moat and sections of glass wall, this exhibit brings people closer than ever to these amazing animals.
There are three gorillas at Gorilla Kingdom:Bobby: male
Zaire: older female
Effie: young female (arrived from Germany in 2007)
The Zoo is encouraging breeding between Bobby and Effie so Gorilla Kingdom may not open at the 10am as they need some privacy.
