Free Family Day: Petrie Museum of Egyptian Archaeology

Petrie Museum of Egyptian Archaeology, London
The Petrie Museum of Egyptian Archaeology has 80,000 objects but only has space to display a small number of its collection. It's housed on the first floor in University College London in two small rooms. Torches are provided so the lighting can stay low to protect the objects. The cabinets are rammed full and there are drawers you can open to see more.

Directions

The next stop is to see the Jeremy Bentham Auto-Icon. This is a dead body, stuffed and in a glass cabinet, sitting at the end of a corridor in University College London (UCL). As long as you don't think your kids will be spooked follow these directions. If you are concerned, then follow the directions but carry on past to the Wellcome Collection.

Turn right onto Malet Place and right again onto Torrington Place (opposite Waterstones bookstore). Turn right again on Gower Street and keep going till you reach Porter's Lodge on your right (before you reach the last street on the left, Grafton Way). Enter the university grounds at Porter's Lodge and you arrive at an open courtyard. Head for the right hand corner, furthest away, and there's a ramp entrance to the South Cloisters, Wilkins Building. The Jeremy Bentham Auto-Icon is just inside.
