The British Museum opens at 10am every day. Start your day here and enjoy a couple of hours discovering wonders of the world including the Rosetta Stone, Elgin Marbles, Easter Island Statue, and Egyptian mummies. Either have lunch at the British Museum cafe, or if it's a fine day, grab a picnic and go to Coram’s Fields, a great, free children’s playground in central London.

Directions

Exit the British Museum at the front entrance. Turn left on Gt. Russell Street, and left again on Montague Street. This will bring you to Russell Square Gardens. Cross over and go in the gardens. If you already have your picnic you could stop here or carry on diagonally across the square towards Russell Square tube station. Cross the busy road (Woburn Place / Southampton Row) and head down Bernard Street, where the tube station can be found. Opposite the tube station is a Tesco Express, which is your best bet for quick picnic supplies.

If the weather doesn't look so good you could go to the Brunswick Shopping Centre, further along Bernard Street, as there are a cafe/restaurants available.

Another alternative would be to go to the Coram Cafe at the Foundling Museum. Turn left at Hunter Street, after the shopping center, and turn right at Brunswick Square.

If you're going straight to Coram's Fields, go past the shopping center, and follow the road as it bends to the right. Turn left at Guildford Street and the entrance is on your left. Do note, adults are not permitted without children so don't split up or you won't get in on your own!
