The tablet is inscribed 'Annodni/1509' and bears the mark of the Wardens of the Bridge. London Bridge was maintained by rental income from its 139 houses and shops, tolls from carts and ships, and private donation. By the 1400s its income was administered by The Bridge Trust, a wealthy institution employing tradesmen, cooks, tidesmen, and gardeners and acquiring more than 800 propoerties in Peckham, Lewisham, Sydenham, and in the City of London itself.
