Free Things to Do in the City of London
More London for Free Ideas

The City of London is actually only a small area east of central London, also known as the Square Mile. (See City of London Boundary Map.) This is the financial and business center of London and where you'll find the suit-wearing bankers and stockbrokers dashing around. The City of London becomes really quiet at the weekend when the workers aren't there. It's well worth a visit as it's full of historical buildings next to modern additions. And, there's loads to do for free.

11. Clockmaker's Museum

The Clockmakers' Collection was begun in 1814 and is the oldest collection specifically of clocks and watches in the world. The exhibition of 1000 exhibits form a sparkling display in a single room off Guildhall Library. It tells the extraordinary story of "The Clockmakers of London" from c.1600 to the present day.

12. City of London Tourist Information Center

The City of London Tourist Information Centre is opposite St. Paul's Cathedral where you can pop in and find out more about this fascinating part of town.

Opening times: Monday to Saturday 9.30am to 5.30pm, Sunday opening 10am to 4pm.

13. Temple Church Free Organ Recitals

Temple Church is the church of Inner and Middle Temple, two of England's four ancient societies of lawyers, the Inns of Court. There are usually organ recitals on Wednesdays lunchtimes but do check the Temple Music website.

14. City Music Society

City Music Society holds regular free lunchtime concerts and has a season of free winter concerts.

And one more for good measure...
Shoe Lane Library has occasional free lunchtime lectures but has regular free wi-fi so is worth a visit.
