Marilyn Monroe would have been eighty this year, just like the Queen of England. To celebrate Marilyn's birthday, The Atlas Gallery in London is showing an exhibition of iconic photographs of the film star. (The Queen's birthday is commemorated with Trooping The Colour.)
The exhibition focuses on the work of Andre De Dienes, who photographed her at the beginning of her career in 1945, and George Barris, who worked with her on a book called Her Life In Her Own Words in 1954. Personally, I love Barris's photos of Marilyn from The Seven Year Itch.
The Atlas Gallery is at 49 Dorset Street, London W1(tel: 020 7224 4192). The exhibition is free and runs till 1 July 2006.
Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment has released Marilyn Monroe 80th Anniversary Collection (1953-1960).The six-disc DVD collection contains five classic Marilyn Monroe films: The Seven Year Itch, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, Niagara, River Of No Return, Let's Make Love, plus a special biographical documentary: Marilyn: The Final Days.
