About the London New Year's Day Parade:
London's New Year's Day Parade started in 1987 and has raised or donated nearly a million pounds to a wide range of London based charities.

More than 10,000 performers representing 20 countries worldwide and more than half a million spectators line the 2 mile route. Around 200 million TV viewers watch The London New Year's Day Parade so it's a very popular event.

When:
1 January
Start: The Parade starts at 12 noon on Piccadilly at the junction with Berkeley Street, outside the Ritz Hotel and finishes around 3pm at Parliament Street.

It is recommended to get your viewing space along the route by 11am.
Celebrity commentators start the celebrations from 11.15am.

The 2 mile Parade route is as follows:

  • Piccadilly Circus
  • Lower Regent Street
  • Waterloo Place
  • Pall Mall
  • Cockspur Street
  • Trafalgar Square
  • Whitehall
  • Parliament Street.

There is also a free souvenir paper - The Parade Post - which is available from the commentary posts and handed out by the charity collectors. The paper is free but the event aims to raise money for London charities so donations are gratefully received.
