About The Athenaeum:
The Athenaeum Hotel & Apartments was originally built in 1925 in the Edwardian era, and was operated like a private club before becoming a luxury apartment block. A £10M refurbishment took place in 1994; and several large suites have recently been redone to suit families.
The Athenaeum has a history of opulence and luxury dating back to the 1850s and was even noted by Charles Dickens for its extravagant interior. Its 1930s Art Deco refurbishment happened when it was still an apartment block but by the 1970s it transformed into the iconic hotel when it was purchased by The Rank Organisation who installed all their film stars at the hotel whenever they were filming at London's famous Pinewood and Ealing Studios.
