Located 35 miles (56km) to the north-east of London, London Stansted (STN) is London's third international gateway and one of the fastest growing airports in Europe. It is home to many of the UK's low-cost airlines, serving mostly European and Mediterranean destinations.
Traveling by Train between Stansted Airport and Central London
Stansted Express is the quickest way into central London. Trains depart every 15 minutes with a journey time of 45 minutes to Liverpool Street station. Train depart from Liverpool Street station between approximately 04.10 and 23.25 and return from Stansted Airport between approximately 05.30 and 00.30 (later at weekends). Connection to the tube (Victoria Line) is also available at Tottenham Hale which is 11 minutes from Liverpool Street on the Stansted Express.
National Express East Anglia (formerly ONE Rail) operates an hourly off-peak service (not Sundays) to and from Stratford for connections to Docklands and east London.
Coach Services between Stansted Airport and Central London
National Express operates two separate 24-hour coach services between Stansted and central London:
- A6 operates up to every 10 minutes, 24 hours a day, to and from London Victoria via Marble Arch and Baker Street.
- A9 operates to and from Stratford (non-stop) every 30 minutes, 24 hours per day. Journey time is 1 hour.
Terravision service A50 operates every 30 minutes to and from Victoria Green Line Coach station. Journey time is 75 minutes.
Service A51 also operates every 30 minutes to and from Liverpool Street station. Journey time is 55 minutes.
Easy Bus service eb2 operates from Victoria Coach Station, via Baker Street, from 03.00 to 22.00. returning from Stansted from 07.00 to 01.05. Fares are much cheaper online. Note, the South Woodford and Hastingwood stops have been discontinued.
Orbis Air Link is a new service between Stansted and destinations in west London.
By Taxi between Stansted Airport and Central London
You can usually find a queue of black cabs outside the airport. The fare is metered, but watch for extra charges such as late night or weekend journeys. Tipping is not compulsory, but 10% is considered the norm. Expect to pay around £85 to get to Central London. Only use a reputable mini-cab and never use unauthorized drivers who offer their services at airports or stations.
