How does he know so much about London? I can only surmise he adores discovering new facts about London as much as I do. It's the level of research that is commendable, then coupled with Long's quirky anecdotal writing style makes this book hard to put down.
The Little Book of London is a wealth of knowledge and fantastic trivia facts. This book inspired me to write about Lost Property on London Transport. Some of the items that have been handed in over the years include human skulls, breast implants, a lawnmower, and a whole stuffed gorilla!
The Little Book of London has themes for each chapter such as Royal London, and Food and Drink. It is incredibly easy to dip into - I've kept a copy in my bag for tube journeys and have chuckled to myself at Long's anecdotes and facts. It even started a conversation on the train one day when everyone wanted to find a quirky fact about London to impress their friends with later (and you know how Londoners never speak to each other on the tube).
This book makes a great gift idea but remember to order two copies as you'll find it hard to give away.
