Louis' London Walks produce a series of pocket-sized books on themed, self-guided London walking tours at pocket money prices (under £5.00).
Book Format
The books are printed on quality glossy paper that survived being held in the rain while I walked around London. There are no pictures but the text is laid out well in two colors to make it easy to identify directions and then information about a place of interest.
The walking tour is divided into two stages with clear, simplified maps for each stage.
Good Research
Even if you can't take the Beatles in London Walk I think the book is still worth buying as it has lots of interesting facts about The Beatles and their lives in London. I've lived very close to a few of the places of interest and I learned new things from this book. I guess unless you're a really big Beatles fan it's actually probably more interesting to read the book than visit the sights listed as time has moved on and there's not much to see.
The book was first published in 1999 and I tried the tour in 2008. A few changes have happened but the basic tour was still valid.
Tour Highlights
- Abbey Road pedestrian crossing
- London homes of The Beatles
- Film locations for "A Hard Day's Night"
Recommended Book
I enjoyed this walking tour, even if some of the sights have changed since the book was first published as I walked down small streets I'd never seen before and found out more about the Beatles London connections. I recommend you put your favorite Beatles tracks on your walkman/MP3 player and get whisked back to swinging London with this enjoyable read.
