The Best Places for Afternoon Tea in London

By

Afternoon tea in London is a wonderful tradition and I've enjoyed this pastime at many venues. The venues listed here are considered by many to be the best afternoon tea places in London.

The Landmark London

This grand, Victorian, luxury five star London hotel has a unique setting for afternoon tea. The Winter Garden is a stunning central atrium and has potted palm trees reaching many floors high. The Landmark London has a Traditional Afternoon Tea, Chocolate Afternoon Tea, and a Gluten free Afternoon Tea available daily. There are also seasonal specials to look out for.

Claridge's

Afternoon tea should be luxurious and elegant and that's what you get at Claridge's. Enjoy the gentle live music and the award-winning afternoon tea of pastries and savories, light, crusty scones and rich clotted cream. Oh, and as much tea as you can drink. I'd go again just for the delicious Marco Polo tea-infused jelly (jam).

The Langham London

The Palm Court at The Langham London is famed as the place where the tradition of afternoon tea was born. The hotel has undergone a complete, but sympathetic, refurbishment and reminds you of the era when the hotel opened in 1865 when Victorian society gathered to enjoy the indulgent splendors offered by The Langham.

Brown's Hotel

The English Tea Room at Brown's Hotel is steeped in history. (Brown's was London's first ever hotel.) This is a wonderful location to enjoy the English tradition of afternoon tea. It's not stuffy but it is certainly sophisticated. The Baby Grand piano playing soft music makes you feel relaxed and majestic and I found the staff attentive but not intrusive.

The Goring

Afternoon Tea at The Goring is served on the Goring Terrace, overlooking the private garden. There is a wide selection of teas including their own Afternoon Tea blend. It's a traditional afternoon tea with a three tiered silver stand laden with sandwiches, homemade scones, and a selection of pastries.

Grosvenor House

It was Anna, 7th Duchess of Bedford, who in the late 18th century had the brilliant notion of asking her butler to bring her a light meal in the middle of the afternoon. The Park Room at Grosvenor House Hotel has named its tea in her honor. 'Anna's Tea' is as distinguished as its originator, with a choice of 17 blends of tea from around the world.

The Ritz

Afternoon Tea at The Ritz is known worldwide and is something everyone should try at least once in a lifetime. Tea at The Ritz is an institution in itself and is served in the spectacular Palm Court.

The Ritz opened in 1906 and still offers all the glamour, excitement, and graceful living that are synonymous with this legendary, world famous hotel.

The Lanesborough

They don't keep winning awards for nothing - this place is superb! I would definitely recommend afternoon tea at The Lanesborough. It is a wonderfully relaxed dining experience where you will be treated extremely well. A real 'must do' for any visit to London.

The Sheraton Park Lane Hotel has an iconic Art Deco setting for afternoon tea with The Palm Court.

The delightful venue, exceptional staff and delicious tea and cakes make this one of my favorite afternoon tea venues in London.

The Dorchester

Taking Afternoon Tea in The Promenade at The Dorchester has been a tradition for 75 years and the phrase still conjures up sumptuous images of well-mannered staff, delightfully luxurious surroundings, beautifully-prepared delicacies and superb teas served in fragile bone china.
