30 January is Charles the Martyr Day commemorating the execution of Charles I on 30 January 1649. A new exhibition opens today at Banqueting House
on Whitehall about the King and the events leading up to his execution.
Banqueting House also has the magnificent Rubens ceiling paintings in the Banqueting Hall, which would have been the last room Charles I saw before stepping out of a window onto a scaffold for his public beheading. Find out more...
