It took many volunteers to make the London 2012 Olympics as great as they were. I was in the Olympics Opening Ceremony volunteer cast, there were Gamesmakers at all of the Olympic venues and in central London we had the pink and purple wearing London Ambassadors. My friend Mar Dixon was a London Ambassador and wrote about her experience here. There has been a lot of talk about having Team London Ambassadors around all the time to help visitors and to keep us all smiling. There will be a pilot event at St Pancras International from 26 October to 11 November 2012 to test the possibility of Team London Ambassadors being permanently based at locations around the capital. They'll have the same role as during the games: giving directions, recommending local cafes, pointing you towards the nearest toilets, etc, as well as giving out maps and just making everyone feel welcome. They'll be there from 10am to 8pm each day so pop along and say hello and thank you. No-one is paying them to do this; they simply want to show how welcoming Londoners can be.
You can also see the London Ambassadors in Trafalgar Square on Saturday 27 October for the NFL Fan Rally and then at Wembley on Sunday 28 October 2012.

Hey all, I am one of the London 2012 Olympics Ambassadors and I can tell you that the Mayor, Boris Johnson, and his advisors have been inspired in their plans to bring back the pink clad London Ambassadors to continue the good work they did during the Olympic games. The idea to harness their finely honed services is such a good one because, in addition to reaping the instantly available benefits to visitors and national organisations alike at no cost, they will inspire the next generation of youngsters we are all helping to raise. This is going to be of paramount importance to our country. They are the future and anything we can do to encoutage the young will pay dividends to keep Britain great in the years to come. We must aim to measure success in terms of mutual help and respect. And in this respect there is no room for Politics! So, Go Ambassadors, Go!!
Thanks Vernon, I agree. The London Ambassadors made London a more welcoming and cheery place and it’s going to be great to see so many back out again.
