Earlier this month, the William Morris Gallery in Walthamstow reopened following a 15 month closure for extensive renovations. The childhood home of William Morris has been a public gallery since 1950 but needed to become fully accessible which this Grade II listed building has now achieved. It also now has an extension for a light and bright Tea Room that was already rammed with mothers and babes in buggies on the opening day.The 'get the crowds back' exhibition is The Walthamstow Tapestry by Turner-prize winning artist Grayson Perry which is on display until 23 September 2012. The permanent galleries include designs, paintings and furniture by the talented artists and craftspeople Morris surrounded himself with including works by Edward Burne-Jones, Dante Gabriel Rossetti, Ford Madox Brown and Phillip Webb.
Free to visit, the William Morris Gallery can be reached from Blackhorse Road or Walthamstow Central tube stations, plus a 20 minute walk or shorter bus ride.
