Midtown is a local Business Improvement District (BID) representing 560 businesses in Bloomsbury, Holborn and St Giles. For visitors this means they are working towards making this part of London more appealing and are offering ways to help you get to know the area.Outside Holborn tube station you can find the "inmidtown" information booth where they are adept at giving directions and advice. This is also the meeting point for the themed free guided walks they run at lunchtime or early evening. While the timing is excellent for local workers, everyone is welcome and I joined a walk recently along with many others not based in the area.
Guides have the walks well-timed with interesting facts to share. The walks only last 45 minutes so are a great introduction to the area and you'll be brought back to a tube station so can head off to continue to explore. The walk I joined had a large group but the Guide had a microphone to amplify his voice and we were able to hear most things.
From Holborn, you could wander over to the British Museum, or stop at Bea's of Bloomsbury or Kingsway Hall Hotel for a well-priced afternoon tea. You may want to go to Lincoln's Inn Fields and visit the Sir John Soane's Museum or the Hunterian Museum, or walk into the City or Covent Garden. This really is a great central location!
