HMS Belfast is a large light cruiser which saw action in both the Second World War and the Korean War, and is now permanently moored between London Bridge and Tower Bridge. HMS Belfast has been closed to the public since 29 November 2011 when a section of the gangway providing access to ship collapsed, but reopened on 18 May 2012.Accompanied under 16s have always gone free at HMS Belfast so a weekend extravaganza of family activities and events is on this weekend, 26 and 27 May, including the chance to meet HMS Belfast veterans and hear their tales of life at sea, then up to the top decks for a barbecue and festive music.
There are nine decks to explore on the ship so families should stick together and enjoy the fun. I've been amazed how many visitors to London have asked about HMS Belfast while it's been closed so I'm pleased to share the news it's back again for all to enjoy.
