Cutty Sark Has Reopened

Follow me on:

£50 million was needed and it took six years but the Cutty Sark is now open again to visitors in Greenwich. The Cutty Sark is the last surviving tea clipper: a super-fast sailing ship from the 19th century. She primarily brought tea to Europe from the Far East, but was also used for other cargoes such as spices, opium and gunpowder.

Don't worry if you don't have sea legs as she - because we always refer to this elegant ship as female - has been in a dry dock in Greenwich since the 1950s and The Queen has had the pleasure of opening the attraction to the public twice: in 1957 and again in 2012.

What makes a visit to the Cutty Sark so special is the incredible Sammy Ofer Gallery below the ship where you can now walk under the ship in a new glass-roofed visitor center (see photo). It's a real wow factor and an interesting place to have the cafe. I didn't get to try the Twinings Cutty Sark-inspired tea blend so I'll just have to go back again soon.
