I've tested the Tep pocket wifi rental in London and across the UK but over Christmas I tried it in Europe with a short trip to France. As data charges are so high it means most of us switch off data roaming while traveling but this takes away the convenience of our smartphones.Tep offers smartphone and mobile wifi rental. The pocket wifi device is smaller than my phone and I simply popped it in a zipped compartment in my handbag and was able to get online when I needed to so I was still able to stay in touch with friends and get information quickly as I would at home. Do they work as well as an iPhone does? Do you know that you can turn your iphone into a portable hotspot? I know that the data charges can be expensive if you are travelling but if you are using a local carrier it should be ok.
Data charges are shocking for travel within Europe so it’s definitely worth getting a set fee package from your network provider or using one of these pocket wifi devices. Honestly, we regularly hear of people getting stung for bills for hundreds of pounds for using data while traveling so most us switch off data roaming which means smartphones are no longer ’smart’. Even the netwrok providers warn customers to turn off data roaming so it’s really not recommended ever.
I tried Tep once and also in UK a company called Fonerent (www.fonerent.com). I have to say both were good but the service, set up and pricing from Fonerent was way better than Tep.
