No Frost Fair for 2009
Tuesday November 3, 2009
The Bankside Frost Fair had been held annually since 2002 and attracts around 150,000 visitors. Last year, Southwark Council stopped their whole tourism program but Better Bankside stepped in and put on the Bankside Winter Festival which was just as popular.
However, this year there won't be a Winter Festival or a Frost Fair but everyone hopes it can return in 2010. It's such a shame as I receive emails from January every year asking me for the date and details of this event. London Travel Blog | Follow AboutLondon on Twitter

I agree awful shame- esp as i had told friends how good the Frost fair is and they were all coming from west london.
However there is the Cologne Xmas market ( 20 nov- 23dec) at Southband centre and a SLowfood market in the same area. Went to the Cologne market last yr- ok but not as good as the frost fair.
Im trying to find out why Southwark council handed the organisation over to the betterbankside company- as they havent made this event better!!!
This is really disappointing as we always relied upon the Frost Fair as an opportunity to find Christmas gifts that were different from the usual things.
It also meant that we could again visit the interesting stores that are always open along the South Bank.
Perhaps this means that Southwark doesn’t care about the area any more?
I am so disappointed, i had told friends all about it and was really looking forward to going – it is one of the highlights of xmas in London.
Does anyone know why it was not on this year?
It’s simply a finance issue this year but Better Bankside really want to bring it back next year.
