I've Adopted an Armadillo
Thursday March 19, 2009
I became a Friend of The Grant Museum last year but hadn't been able to find the specimen that I'd adopted before so I was thrilled today when I popped by to see my name next to a 'Six-Banded Armadillo Skeleton'. Yes, I don't really know why I chose it but now I've seen it I like it. Find out more about supporting the Grant Museum. The Grant Museum of Zoology and Comparative Anatomy is a real 'find'. It's a university museum and was created back in 1827 as there were no teaching resources available. Robert Edmond Grant has left London was a fantastic legacy as the museum is full of skeletons of extinct animals. I had never even heard of a dugong which was the first skeleton I saw as I entered the small, one room museum. It's like a Victorian laboratory but you're allowed to be there. There's usually some specimens out for handling - just ask the curators to show you and they are only too willing to oblige. And to offer all this for free is just great.
