Bankside Winter Festival (Frost Fair)
Monday December 1, 2008
The Bankside Frost Fair as we have known it will not be happening this year as Southwark Council have stopped their whole tourism program(!) Instead, a fabulous Bankside Winter Festival will take place from 12 to 21 December 2008. There's a splendid lantern parade to open the Festival and a stunning river procession of traditional Thames Cutters carrying Frost Fair flags on Saturday 13 December 2008. The market itself will have 40-50 quality arts and crafts stalls, selling those last minute stocking fillers including handmade jewelry, fine ceramics, wooden Christmas crafts, leather goods, and other beautiful handcrafted accessories. Oh, and of course there will be festive food stalls and a bar serving mulled wine and ale.
The Bankside Frost Fair had been held annually since 2002 and last year attracted around 150,000 visitors. I've been receiving emails requesting information about this event since last January so I'm really pleased to have this good news about the Bankside Winter Festival to share with you.
