EAST - East London Festival

Friday February 29, 2008
EAST is a six day festival starting on 6 March 2008 showcasing the best of what's on offer in East London. A programme of over 400 events in fashion, film, food, art, history, and performance will celebrate the vibrancy, diversity and unique spirit of the area. There are supposedly more artists per square foot in London's East End than anywhere else on the planet. Participating partners include the Museum of London and Whitechapel Gallery. Highlights include:
  • Bell Ringing Relay EAST
EAST opens with a spectacular relay of bell ringing, starting at St Paul's Cathedral, then stretching out to over 20 of East London's churches from Hackney to Stratford.
    Thursday 6 March 2008, 6 – 8pm
  • Taste EAST
A two day festival of food, fun, and free entertainment. Spitalfields will be transformed into a countryside idyll with straw bales, spit roasts, and animals from Spitalfields City Farm. Food stalls will be accompanied by live music, storytelling, stilt walkers, balloon-modelling, and acrobatics.
Spitalfields, Crispin Place, off Brushfield Street, London E1
    Friday 7 and Saturday 8 March 2008, 12pm – 5pm
