Foundling Museum Free Workshops
Monday February 25, 2008
Take the kids to the Foundling Museum on Saturday 8 March 2008 for a day of free workshops from 12pm to 5pm. Visitors can try their hand at directing a photo shoot with the assistance of a professional artist, as well as practical and decorative activities in association with Art Room Oxford. Further entertainment includes live performances from Sojourner Truth, a youth dance and music group and specially commissioned audio trails made by young people. This is all to coincide with the Flourish exhibition (6-22 March 2008) which showcases the creative output of young people who have been in care.
The Foundling Museum tells the story of the Foundling Hospital, London's first home for abandoned children and of three major figures in British history: its campaigning founder the philanthropist Thomas Coram, the artist William Hogarth, and the composer George Frideric Handel. Over 3 centuries, the Foundling Hospital cared for 27,000 children. It was also Britain’s first art gallery as artists gave their work so wealthy benefactors would visit and pledge donations to the Hospital.
