Journey to The New World
Saturday April 7, 2007
Journey to The New World is an exhibition at the Museum of Docklands in London to mark the 400th anniversary of the first permanent English settlement in America at Jamestown, Virginia. I went to see the exhibition last week and really enjoyed it. I learned a lot of interesting facts such as when coffee was imported to London from Virginia we Londoners were scared of hot non-alcoholic drinks! We thought it might be poison, or a medicine, but we soon learned to love coffee and by 1662 there were 83 coffee houses in the City of London (financial district) alone.
Outside the Museum in Docklands there is even a full-size replica of the Discovery, one of the 3 ships that sailed from London to Virginia in 1606.
You've not got long to see it as Journey to The New World is ending on 13 May 2007.
I really enjoyed my visit to the Museum in Docklands and will be telling you more about what there is to see and do there soon.
