Terracotta Army Coming to The British Museum
Tuesday February 27, 2007
China's Terracotta Army is coming to the British Museum for an exhibition about China’s First Emperor, Qin Shihuangdi, and his legacy. About twenty life size figures from the tomb of Emperor Qin Shihuangdi are being loaned for the event and the Reading Room, in the center of the Great Court, is having a £1.5 million facelift to host the exhibition from 13 September 2007.
The Terracotta Warriors Information (from gochina.about.com):
"Discovered in 1974 when a local farmer was digging a well, the terracotta army, buried in 210BC with the first emporer of the Qin dynasty, is a breathtaking site. The thousands of life-size figures have individually unique faces and hair and armor styles appropriate to their rank."
In return, the British Museum has lent the National Museum of China four touring exhibitions.
