First Night of the Proms
Friday July 14, 2006
The first night of the BBC Proms – one of the most famous classical music festivals in the world – will be broadcast live on a giant screen in Trafalgar Square. The programme includes Mozart, Shostakovich, Smetana and Dvorák, performed by the BBC Symphony Orchestra and Chorus. You can also enjoy a live pre-broadcast event hosted by BBC Radio 3.
Tickets for the Proms vary depending on the individual concert, but you can get Ł5 tickets for 'promming' (standing in the seatless areas). There are 500 promming tickets available on the day from the Royal Albert Hall ticket office for cash only. But be warned, the Proms are very popular and you will have to queue early (possible even overnight) to get one of these tickets. Image: © (2006) Laura Porter licensed to About.com, Inc.
