London Traffic Noise Map

Monday May 29, 2006
If you're wondering if your hotel in London is going to be on a quiet street or a main road, check out the London Road Traffic Noise Map. This mapping system has been devised to find out the base level of noise in London, to then know if noise control measures are working. Scroll down the homepage to the Interactive London Noise Map and click on the link. Then, under Selection on the right, enter the postcode or street name of where your hotel is. Click on Submit and a map of different colors relating to the decibel level will appear. Apparently, 70-75 decibels is quite normal in London. Sounds about 90 decibels can lead to hearing loss. Don't worry if your hotel is on a busy street, most London buildings have double glazing so the traffic noise probably won't affect your sleep.
