World's Most Expensive Sandwich?

Wednesday April 12, 2006
Selfridges, the London department store on Oxford Street, started selling a sandwich this week priced at £85 (about US$140)! It has 2,000 calories and is called the McDonald sandwich, named after their head chef, Scott McDonald. So, what do you get for this hefty price tag?
  • Sourdough bread, fermented for 24 hours
  • A large slice of Wagyu beef - the most expensive meat on earth. It comes from Kobe cattle in Japan, which are massaged, and fed on top-quality grain and beer.
  • Brie de meaux, regarded as the finest cheese in Europe
  • A bed of rocket salad
  • Roasted peppers and cherry tomatoes
  • Mayonnaise made from fois gras and black truffle
Not too surprisingly, the sandwich weighs a mighty 21 ounces (half a kilo)!

Would you pay this much for a sandwich? Visit the Forum and let us know by submitting your answer to our Poll.
