US pupils barred from London trip

US pupils from Fort Myers High School in Lee County, Florida had accepted an invitation to perform in the 2007 London New Year’s Parade, but have now been banned from attending by over-cautious officials. They seem to believe there is a risk of “trains blowing up” in London. Of course, this is a completely ridiculous view of the safety levels in London. We suffered a one-off terrorism incident on 7 July 2005 and we have recovered remarkably well. These narrow-minded views are really not helpful.
