Michelangelo Drawings at The British Museum
Saturday March 25, 2006
The latest exhibition to open at The British Museum is Michelangelo Drawings – Closer to the Master. These drawing offer an insight into how the artist worked and thought.
Collections from the British Museum, the Ashmolean and the Teyler Museum in Haarlem, have been brought together for this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to follow the evolution of some of the world's most celebrated artworks.
The exhibition traces sixty years of Michelangelo's stormy life, from intimate studies made when he was in his early twenties to the visionary Crucifixion scenes carried out shortly before his death.
It reunites material not seen together since the dispersal of the artist's studio more than 400 years ago, offering a wholly different perspective on the defining genius of the Italian Renaissance.
The exhibition runs until 25 June and tickets are £10. Advance booking is strongly recommended and timed tickets are available: book online.
